The Community Culture Department and the Tourist Office have joined forces to set up a series of events as part of Caribbean Tourism Month.

For 7 November, 1.2 Tree for Saint Martin was the day for Caribbean tourism to celebrate Saint-Martin with the symbolic planting of a local tree, Gaillac, in the community garden.

The Minister of Education, Youth, Culture and Sport of Sint Maarten, Mrs. Silvéria Jacob, was present with the First Vice-President of the Community and President of the Office of Tourism, Valérie Damaseau.

The Tourist Office, in partnership with the Culture Department and the Environment Department with the support of the District Councils, proposed replanting trees and plants to beautify the area after Irma.

The idea of this project is to sensitize the population as part of the reconstruction of the island on the environment. A series of plantations is planned in the coming weeks.
