EDF wishes to accompany Saint-Martin in its reconstruction
The President Daniel Gibbs received in community, Saturday 14 October 2017, the CEO of the EDF Group, Mr. Jean-Bernard Levy and his delegation, in the presence of the Prefect Anne Laubies, to discuss the support of EDF on the territory concerning the rehabilitation of electricity networks.
In the preamble, President Levy told President Gibbs that the deployment of exceptional resources by EDF on the territory has allowed to act quickly and restore electricity in all Saint-Martin homes.
In addition to the field logistics provided by approximately 250 technicians, EDF intends to be part of the community support over time, with regard to the modernization of networks and the rehabilitation of public lighting. There is indeed the fund for the development and electrification of networks to which the community is eligible and which would enable it to finance up to 80% the reconstruction work by establishing a reconstruction program in the line "bad weather".
As such, President Gibbs said he wanted to accelerate the burying of electricity networks throughout the country, and also standardize public lighting by focusing its priorities on an energy economy for public expenditure. A redeployment plan using LED lighting and new technologies would save the community from 20 to 30% on their annual bill. The issue of the development of renewable energies on the territory was also raised, in particular the deployment of photovoltaic (solar) energy.
Favorable to the development of clean energies, President Gibbs indicated that he wanted for the photovoltaic a measured deployment taking into account the exiguity of the territory. The President also wants studies on the potential of energy from biomass and biogas, as well as marine wind, which could be an alternative solution. Either sustainable solutions adapting to the needs of the territory, provided they are mastered and dimensioned wisely.
These discussions will continue with EDF in the coming weeks, with President Gibbs favoring a move towards clean energy for the benefit of protecting our environment and better service to the public.
