Exhibition "Saint-Martin of yesterday and today" Thursday 13 last November, the children of the periscolaire and the library of schools have joined together to present an exhibition entitled "Saint-Martin of yesterday and today 'Hui' at the Hervé Williams 2 elementary school, as part of the Saint-Martin's Day festivities.
As Maryse Burnett, director of the Hervé Williams 2 school, explains, this exhibition brought together photographs, texts and images of Saint-Martin d'Antan and Saint-Martin today, with a section dedicated to Objects used once in everyday life. It has therefore highlighted the history and local traditions of the two parts of the island, such as cockfighting, sugarcane plantations, pre-Columbian archeology, the Steel Pans tradition, Without forgetting the Treaty of Concordia and its impact always visible on contemporary life. Antique objects were also exhibited, and so the public and school children who visited the exhibition were able to discover old oil lamps, coal pots, and all the objects used in the past.
"A way to introduce St. Martin to children," said Maryse Burnett, who said a lot of research had been done to be able to carry out this exhibition.
Three animators in traditional dress hosted the audience in the courtyard of the school where the French and Sint Maarten flags floated, as well as a replica of the border monument made from white balloons. The students did not hesitate to wear the colors of Saint-Martin for the occasion and to explain to the visitors the content of the exhibition, a process that they liked very much.
