The community of Saint-Martin has embarked on the path of sustainable development and in particular the recycling of household waste for which significant efforts must be made on the territory this year. Thus, on Monday 14 December 2015, President Aline Hanson signed an agreement with the national partner Eco-Emballages, with the aim of energizing the collection and sorting of waste.

The collection improvement plan (CAP), initiated at the national level by Eco-Emballages, makes it possible to finance actions to improve sorting in low-performing territories. This plan, funded at the national level in the amount of 40M €, aims to increase the tons of recycled waste and per capita performance. Ultramarine territories are also eligible for this scheme, and thanks to the involvement of the Community - through its Environment and Life Management - which has put forward its candidature, Saint-Martin is one of the winners of Eco- Emballages, and will thus be able to benefit from financial support to promote recycling on the territory of the community.

The community will receive funding to improve the existing collection arrangements and to implement a communication campaign and the intervention of a green brigade in neighborhoods to promote recycling of waste to citizens.

This citizen policy action, initiated by the territorial executive, will enable the Saint-Martin community to increase its potential in terms of tri-selection and thus to place the territory in an environmentally sustainable manner.

A local project committee composed of elected officials and technicians will meet on a quarterly basis to monitor the progress of the action plan. The committee met for the first time, the 14 December 2015, just after the official signing of the partnership agreement between the Community and Eco-Emballages.

President Aline Hanson and 1er Vice-President Guillaume Arnell in charge of the Sustainable Development pole were particularly pleased with this progress, the first effects of which will be felt during the first quarter of 2016, with the implementation Of the first actions with the general public.
