President Aline Hanson and Michel Sanz, the representative of the rector, officially launched the creation of a hotel-restaurant-tourism excellence center in Saint-Martin, during a joint press conference, the 24 June 2016. A project supported by the French overseas minister George Pau-Langevin, who herself announced the creation of the pole of excellence by press. The first action within the pole of excellence is the implementation, from the beginning of the 2016 school year, of a trilingual Hotel and Restaurant BTS, alternating.

This is an important step forward for Saint-Martin. The President of the Republic, François Hollande, had himself announced the creation of this pole of excellence, when he came to Saint-Martin, the 08 May 2015. This arrangement was strongly awaited by President Aline Hanson and her majority, given the urgent needs for post-baccalaureate training on the territory. A request to which the Rectorate immediately responded, taking in hand the logistics of creating the device.
To carry out the implementation of the first BTS to be taught within the pole of excellence (a BTS hotel and catering option A), the community of Saint Martin and the Rectorate of Guadeloupe initiated a partnership with GRETA, Who will provide the theoretical training of the BTS and the Saint Martin Hotel Association (AHSM), as hotels in the square have agreed to take over technical education.

It was in the presence of the President of GRETA, Jeanine Hamlet, and the President of the AHSM, Philippe Thevenet, that President Aline Hanson and the representative of Rector Michel Sanz announced the somewhat special functioning of this BTS. The BTS was created with the objective of offering young people in the territory job opportunities that respond to the needs of professionals in the tourism sector. It will be taught in three languages: French, English and Spanish. Students will alternate periods of theoretical training with GRETA and an in situ learning the rest of the time, in the hotels of Saint-Martin having signed partnership with the rectorate.
Partners of the project, the Employment Pole, OPCALIA and LADOM, also contribute to the building by funding places in the BTS for Pôle Emploi, financing the theoretical training for Opcalia, and taking charge of the tickets Flight of students during the internship abroad, for Ladom.

This diploma training will start in October, around fifteen places will be available. This BTS has the particularity of addressing job seekers with a baccalaureate degree and employees in a professionalization contract. It is a BTS recognized in France and on European territory, which should be emulated.
As pointed out by the French overseas minister, the center of excellence will host a BTS Tourism and 2018 a professional license, then a professional master. The international language center of Saint-Martin will complement this system by providing quality language instruction.
