Visit Ambassador AEC Alphonso Munera
At the invitation of President Aline HANSON, the Secretary General of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), Ambassador Alphonso MUNERA, visited Saint-Martin, from Wednesday 06 to Saturday 09 April 2016, For a visit of the territory as part of the process of accession of Saint-Martin to the ACS.

During the meeting with elected representatives of the community on Thursday 07 April, the Ambassador was welcomed by President Aline HANSON, Vice-Presidents Ramona CONNOR and Rosette GUMBS-LAKE and Territorial Councilor Louis FLEMING.
In her welcome, the President recalled the challenges of integrating Saint Martin within the ACS. "This membership application responds to human, geographical, cultural and economic evidences. Territorial diplomacy is a new era, an era of change and I want to tell you my will to engage our community, "said the President.
A wish welcomed by Ambassador MUNERA, who welcomes the accession of Saint Martin in his own name within the Association of Caribbean States.
In order to present the actions of the Community in the areas of preference of the ACS, Mr. Louis FLEMING, territorial adviser in charge of cooperation, presented the ambitions of regional integration of the Community of Saint Martin , While Mrs. Stéphanie BESSIERE, Director of Tourism, presented the progress of the territory in the field of sustainable tourism.
Other topics discussed at the meeting included the governance of the Caribbean Sea and the risks related to natural disasters presented by Alex RICHARDS, External Action Director, and Charlotte TERRAC, Major Risks Mission, Were the subject of rich exchanges between the representative of the AEC and the community of Saint-Martin.
Ms Charlotte TERRAC thus introduced the newly installed Tide Station in order to assess in real time the sea level and to fill a lack of information on our zone.
Afterwards, the Ambassador discovered the reception facilities of Saint-Martin, like the port of Galisbay-Bienvenue, whose visit was led by its director, Mr. Albéric ELLIS.

More specifically, President Aline HANSON proposed to the Ambassador a tour of the island organized in close collaboration with the Tourist Office of Saint Martin. Thus, Alphonso MUNERA was able to discover the potential of Saint-Martin, particularly in terms of sustainable tourism thanks to a guided tour with the indispensable support of the Natural Reserve of Saint-Martin on the areas of Anse Marcel, Pinel and Tintamarre.

A program designed to sensitize the Ambassador to the many potentialities of Saint Martin that the accession to the ACS will reinforce within the Greater Caribbean while emphasizing the specificities.
