The prefect delegated to the representative of the state in the communities of St. Barthelemy and St. Martin, Mrs. Anne Laubies, took office on Monday 08 June 2015, during an official ceremony of wreath laying before the monument to the Dead in line with the Republican tradition, in the presence of President Aline Hanson, Senator Guillaume Arnell, elected members of the Territorial Council, veterans and law enforcement.
Beforehand, the prefect Laubies was received by the president Aline Hanson, in his office for an interview of about thirty minutes. During this first one-on-one meeting, the President addressed the major issues of the Community with the prefect.
After introducing her to the region and its immediate challenges, Aline Hanson mentioned one of her main priorities, Youth, and the various projects in this field, such as the creation of a closed educational center for Offenders and reintegration assistance in the territory.
The administrative functioning of the Community was also presented to Anne Laubies during this interview, as well as the needs of the territory and certain important issues such as the development of the secondary road network or the need to bury the electric cables in the medium term.
A meeting with elected representatives of the Territorial Council was then scheduled in the deliberations room. President Hanson officially welcomed the prefect Anne Laubies: "Our territory has many priorities and we wish to work with you, as we did with your predecessor Philippe Chopin," she said in a preamble.
Vice Presidents Guillaume Arnell, Wendel Cocks and Rosette Gumbs-Lake, present for the occasion, presented their respective portfolios and the main issues of their competence cluster. A tour de table also allowed the prefect to meet the other elected representatives and their prerogatives.
The prefect Laubies assured the assistance of his desire to "inscribe in the continuity and to work like the prefect Chopin did".
"I am aware of the difficulties, the issues and the issues that concern you. The state representative is there to help you, to accompany you, to interface with the national interlocutors, and I will listen to you, "she concluded.
