HOUSING IN OVERSEAS

The Collectivité of St Martin was represented at the USHOM colloquium at the Senate

The Director General of Services for the Collectivité of Saint-Martin, Natacha PETRINE, attended the conference of the Social Union for Overseas Housing (USHOM) at the Senate on Friday, November 21, 2025, accompanied by the Deputy Director General for Quality of Life, Isabelle GORIZIA. During her visit, Ms. PETRINE addressed the issue of housing and the challenges faced by our overseas collectivité since Hurricane Irma in 2017. She also met with the Minister for Overseas Territories, Naïma MOUTCHOU.

Our Director General of Services spoke at the local authorities roundtable dedicated to the post-crisis management of administrations.

Supported by figures, Natacha Pétrine presented the difficulties encountered by the collectivité since 2017, the historical context and the challenges to be met, while highlighting the resilience of Saint-Martin and its population after this major crisis.

She thus specified some fundamental principles for our collectivité : "Housing in Saint-Martin must be resilient and consistent with the risks, the social housing stock must remain a foundation for stabilization and rehousing, land must be controlled to protect the territory, crisis governance must be simple, readable and prepared, and financing must be anticipated, sustainable and structured."

This is the result of work initiated by President Louis Mussington and his team since 2022, and implemented by the general management of services and the Quality of Life delegation, with the support of institutional partners, the State and Europe, and dedicated organizations and mechanisms.

Madam DGS Natacha Pétrine and Naïma MOUTCHOU.
