The Collectivité of Saint-Martin, winner of the Bestlife2030 program!
The BESTLIFE2030 program, funded by the European Union with the support of the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB), supports concrete projects for the preservation and restoration of biodiversity in European overseas territories. The Collectivité of Saint-Martin was selected thanks to its project for the ecological rehabilitation of the Galisbay pond.
Under the leadership of Second Vice-President Bernadette Davis, the Environment Department of the Collectivité of Saint-Martin submitted its application and was selected for the project " Galisbay Pond: Towards a Model of Urban Ecology in Saint-Martin ." This selection allows Saint-Martin to benefit from European funding dedicated to the ecological restoration of this iconic site.
The project, led by the Collectivité, aims to improve the ecological condition of the pond while strengthening its role in the quality of life for the residents of Galisbay. Planned actions include ecological restoration work, the creation of walking areas, a walking trail, wildlife observation points, and the installation of educational panels. The association Nature Is The Key will also participate in the project through awareness-raising activities and workshops for all audiences.
The first actions are scheduled to be launched in the coming days. This project, politically championed by 2nd Vice-President Bernadette Davis and managed by the Environment Department of the Quality of Life and Ecological Transition Delegation, illustrates the commitment of the Collectivité of Saint-Martin to protecting biodiversity and improving the quality of life for its residents.
