PRESIDENT'S EDITORIAL: 2026 Hurricane Season

Dear women of Saint-Martin,
Dear residents of Saint-Martin,

"Every year, from June 1st to November 30th, our region enters cyclone season, and we urge you to be vigilant. Your safety and that of your family depend on it, and this critical period must not be neglected under any circumstances. Your participation in the individual and collective effort is essential, and we are counting on you."

Every year, this time of year reminds us how vulnerable our island is to major weather events and how crucial everyone's preparedness is to protecting lives. Past cyclones have taught us one fundamental lesson: prevention and anticipation save lives!

Preparing before the arrival of a cyclonic phenomenon is not an option, it is a collective and civic responsibility.

The Collectivité of Saint-Martin, alongside the State and all mobilized services, is doing everything possible to inform, support, and protect the population. But everyone's safety also depends on the simple actions that each person can take starting today.

I urge you to prepare your emergency kit, stock up on sufficient water and food supplies, and check the condition of your home, roof, and equipment. Also, remember to secure your garden and remove any bulky items to prevent any danger in case of strong winds.

It is also essential to carefully follow weather reports and official instructions issued by Météo-France, the Prefecture, and the Collectivité. During an alert period, every instruction counts.

Following guidelines and adopting the right behaviors helps protect your family, loved ones, and the entire community. Solidarity, discipline, and individual responsibility are the best weapons against natural disasters.

I know I can count on everyone's commitment and sense of responsibility to get through this season in the best possible conditions.

Let's remain vigilant, prepared, and united.

Louis MUSSINGTON

President of the Territorial Council of Saint-Martin
