Signing of joint strategy Saint-Martin Sint Maarten

This significant event underscores the implementation of exemplary and ambitious cooperation between the French State, the Collectivity of Saint-Martin, and the Government of Sint Maarten. It represents a major step forward in terms of guidelines, planning, and strengthening of joint capacities for the development of the island of Saint-Martin.

The signatories are: 1st Vice-President Alain Richardson, by delegation of President Louis Mussington, Prefect Cyrille le Vely and Prime Minister of Sint Maarten Luc Marcelina.

Present alongside the signatories were Patrick Sellin, Chairman of the Management Committee of the Interreg Caribbean Programme, Guadeloupe Region, Pierre Emmanuel Leclerc, representative of DGREGIO, European Commission and Mariana Arias, representative of DG INTPA, European Union delegation Barbados.

The cooperation strategy is developed over 10 years (2025-2034).

Among the short-term projects: the Simpson Bay lagoon will be the subject of environmental and socio-economic studies, a complete cleanup and a management plan and corrective actions, for an amount of 4 million euros.

In the medium to long term, 45 strategic objectives spread across 12 themes, including 4 priority areas, will be deployed over the period 2028-2034: water - energy - health - environment - economy and tourism - crisis management and resilience - digital - youth and culture - urban planning - statistics and fiscal policy.

These projects can be presented by project promoters on the other axes of the Interreg Caribbean programme (total amount €61M).

The technical development of the strategy was financially supported by the European Union through the Interreg Caribbean program for an amount of €82,000.
