Access to the Marigot Waterfront Taxi Station
New organization!
The Collectivité of Saint-Martin informs taxi drivers operating in the territory and on the Dutch side of the new organization put in place, before the new tourist season, at the "Emmanuel MONIQUE" taxi station, on the Marigot seafront.
In order to combat undeclared work and stop daily incivilities, the collectivité of Saint-Martin has reorganized the traffic of taxi drivers on the seafront site where the Emmanuel Monique taxi station is located, as well as the Marigot maritime station and the access areas for large tourist buses.
During the high tourist season, more than 2000 people pass through this highly touristic location every day, between the maritime station and the boats from Anguilla and St Barth, visitors transported by tourist buses from the Dutch area, tourists visiting Marigot, car rental companies and the many taxis that operate to this central point of Marigot.
The Collectivité therefore deemed it crucial to organize and secure the taxi parking area, as well as the area in front of the maritime station, to make it an exclusive parking area and allow taxi drivers to work in better conditions.
Redevelopment work is underway in the parking areas, in order to redefine the waiting and customer service circuit.
These works are accompanied by urban developments designed to encourage taxi drivers to use the site, in exchange for an annual contribution from them.
The new organization consists of:
* Install automatic barriers and badge readers for intensive and collective use
* Control access points powered by a set of photocells
* Create individual, time-stamped, and remotely controlled access badges
* Centralize the IT management of access via the internet
* Dismantle the barriers in case of a demonstration on the site
* Install a battery-backed locking system in case of power outage
As a reminder :
* Driver's assistants who are not Dutch citizens or do not hold a passport or a European identity card are not allowed to work at the Emmanuel Monique taxi station.
* The vehicles used must be compliant, clean and maintained (usage documents, good general appearance, bodywork in good condition, tires and accessories in good condition).
All taxi drivers are asked to respect the essential criteria for the regular exercise of the activity and the safety of passengers, in order to structure the supply on the French side and to combat the proliferation of clandestine taxis .
