Swimming and water sports are prohibited in Galisbay and Grand Case.
February 23, 2026Opening of the Galisbay and Grand Case drainage outlets
The Collectivité of Saint-Martin informs the public of the need to open the Galisbay and Grand Case outlets. Therefore, the beaches of Grand Case and Galisbay will be temporarily closed to swimming and water sports as a health precaution.
The opening of the ponds takes place within a hydrological and ecological context requiring the regulation of water levels. This type of operation is essential for flood prevention and the management of hydraulic balance. This action, authorized by presidential decree, mechanically results in a flow towards the coastline that may temporarily alter the quality of bathing waters.
As a health precaution, and in accordance with the principles of public health protection, swimming and water sports are prohibited until further notice in the affected areas.
Water quality checks will be carried out to monitor the situation and allow for reopening to swimming as soon as possible, as soon as the ARS analyses confirm a return to conditions in accordance with current health standards.
The Collectivité apologizes for the inconvenience caused and calls on users to strictly respect this prohibition by exercising vigilance.
