Foreign driving licences issued by member states of the European Union are valid; exchange is mandatory if your driving licence is damaged, expired, lost or stolen.

Exchanging foreign driving licenses issued by an authority outside the European Union and the European Economic Area is mandatory. Your license remains valid until one year after you establish your primary residence in mainland France.

Warning : The exchange of driving licences by an authority not belonging to the European Union or the European Economic Area is not systematic, in fact there is a list of countries with which France has concluded reciprocity agreements.

If your country is not on the list, it is up to you to apply for and pass the driving licence exam.

Therefore, provided you hold a foreign driving licence certifying the validity of your driving rights, you are not required to complete a minimum of 20 hours of driving lessons or to hold a learner's logbook.
